Data Migration to Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
A major obstacle to modernizing the work environment is often the migration of existing data.
This is not just about moving documents, but above all about restructuring and rebuilding data in order to be able to use it more productively.
In the migrations that I have been able to accompany for large companies, a mixture of different approaches has always proven to be effective:
Migration strategy
Creation of a plan and organizational framework for the different phases of a migration. When everyone involved knows what to do, misunderstandings and chaos are avoided and the migration risk is drastically reduced.
Methodolgy
Different data should be migrated differently depending on their needs.
- Documents and unified pages can be migrated automatically.
- Complex content should be migrated manually. This allows editors to adapt to the new system and clean up the content at the same time.
- Depending on the quantity structure, a semi-automated migration can also be carried out.
Change and Adoption
The most important factor of a migration is user acceptance. Communicating the migration process to users in an understandable way, taking away fears and generating motivation are elementary.
Delivery
There are extensive options available for technical migration. Skills in dealing with the platform and scripting are very helpful in order to be able to map the different requirements for a transformation of the content.
